AI Visibility Watch #4 — June 26, 2026: Claude Adds Web Citations & What It Means for B2B Brands
Founder & CEO, Crackle PR
This week in AI visibility
1. Claude joins the cited-source club
Anthropic flipped web citations on by default in Claude this week. Claude now surfaces source URLs inline in responses, similar to Perplexity. Previously, citations were available only via specific tools or developer settings.
2. Which sources Claude trusts
Early sampling across 60 B2B tech queries shows a strong skew toward:
- Long-form publications (Forbes, HBR, MIT Tech Review, The Information)
- Primary research from analyst firms and vendor research blogs
- Well-structured docs sites with clear hierarchy and Speakable-friendly markup
- Wikipedia and reference encyclopedias (heavier than Perplexity)
Notably under-cited compared to ChatGPT and Perplexity: vendor blogs, press releases, and most listicle/comparison pages. Claude appears to be running a stricter authority filter.
“Different LLMs trust different source sets. Optimizing for citations isn't a single playbook — it's a stack. Long-form analyst-style content does well in Claude, third-party listicles dominate AI Overviews, and quoted founder commentary wins in Perplexity.”
3. What to do this week
- Verify your docs are crawlable — robots.txt allows Anthropic's bot (
anthropic-ai,ClaudeBot), sitemap covers your docs subdomain. - Add
SpeakableSpecificationschema to the 3–5 paragraphs on each page most likely to be quoted (TL;DRs, definitive claims, benchmark numbers). - Commission or write one long-form piece this month — 2,500+ words, named author, primary data or interviews. This is Claude's preferred format and it doubles as Perplexity bait.
