AI Visibility Watch #1 — June 5, 2026: Overviews 2B Users, ChatGPT Search Goes Shopping

This week in AI visibility
Three movements worth noting for any B2B tech brand that cares whether ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, or Google AI Overviews mentions them by name.
1. Google AI Overviews crossed 2B monthly users
Per Google's I/O updates earlier this quarter, AI Overviews now serve more than two billion monthly users — the de facto default for informational queries in English-speaking markets. For B2B tech, that means category and "best X" queries are increasingly answered before the user ever sees the ten blue links.
The practical impact: pages that exist primarily for ranking — generic "what is X" posts with no original data, no quoted source, no attribution — are losing the click. Pages with citable structure (dated, attributed, quantified) are showing up as the source links inside Overviews.
2. ChatGPT Search became a shopping surface
OpenAI rolled out product comparison cards in ChatGPT Search this week, with inline pricing and side-by-side spec extraction. For SaaS, cybersecurity, and fintech vendors this turns "best [category] software" listicles into a new high-intent traffic source — but only if your brand is named in the listicles ChatGPT trusts.
Translation: if you're not appearing in third-party listicles on G2, Capterra, TechCrunch, Forbes, and category trade press, ChatGPT can't surface you in product comparisons. Earned listicle placements just became a measurable distribution channel.
3. Three patterns that lifted citation rates 30–60% this week
Across the client portfolio, three structural moves correlated with measurable citation lift in our weekly tracking (Perplexity API + manual ChatGPT sampling, n=42 queries):
- Dated TL;DR blocks on every money page with a visible "Updated" timestamp. LLMs disproportionately cite content with explicit recency signals.
- Attributed pull-quotes using Schema.org
Quotationmarkup. Quoted, attributed claims get extracted as direct citations more often than equivalent body prose. - Per-page
SpeakableSpecificationJSON-LD pointing at TL;DR and FAQ blocks. Voice and AI-summary surfaces preferentially pull from these regions.
“If your content doesn't carry a date, a quote, and a citable structure, AI engines treat it as background noise. The brands winning citations right now are the ones writing for extraction, not for ranking.”
What to do this week
- Audit your top 10 commercial pages for a dated TL;DR. Add one if missing.
- Identify three pages where an attributed quote from the founder would strengthen the argument. Add them with
Quotationschema. - Pick your highest-intent five URLs and add
