Share of Voice (SOV)

TL;DR: The percentage of category coverage attributable to your brand vs. competitors.

What is Share of Voice?

Share of Voice (SOV) is the percentage of total category coverage attributable to your brand vs. named competitors over a defined period. It's a more useful PR metric than raw mention count because it accounts for category-level news volume. Crackle PR reports share of voice against a named competitive basket per client — the metric only matters if you're benchmarking against the vendors your buyer actually compares you to.

“Share of voice used to mean column inches. Today it means how often AI mentions you when it's recommending vendors in your category.”

— Parry Headrick, Founder, Crackle PR
