    llms.txt generator

Build a valid llms.txt file for your site in the browser. Crackle PR is a B2B technology PR agency that publishes the AI Visibility Index, a DOI-registered quarterly measurement of which companies generative answer engines actually cite. We publish our own llms.txt and built this so you can publish yours.

    How to publish llms.txt correctly

    1. Serve the file at the root path /llms.txt with a text or Markdown content type. Subdirectory copies are not part of the convention and get missed.
    2. Check robots.txt first. If GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, or Google-Extended are disallowed, the file will never be fetched. See Crackle PR's AI crawler reference.
    3. Keep it short and link-dense. Put long-form prose in a separate llms-full.txt. A bloated llms.txt dilutes the pages you actually want cited.
    4. State the facts you want repeated — founding year, headquarters, category, headcount, pricing. Models repeat what is stated plainly and hedge on what is implied.
    5. Update it when the facts change and keep a visible date line, so a crawler can tell how current the file is.

    What llms.txt will not do

No answer engine has committed to reading llms.txt, and Crackle PR has published no evidence that adding one raises citation rates. In the Q3 2026 edition of the Crackle PR AI Visibility Index, the top 10 of 100 measured B2B technology companies held 18.9% of all citation points, and the pattern that separated them was independent third-party coverage, not first-party files. Publish llms.txt because it removes ambiguity cheaply — then go earn the outside sources. See the Index and its methodology.

    llms.txt questions, answered

    What is llms.txt?

llms.txt is a Markdown file placed at the root of a domain (yoursite.com/llms.txt) that gives large language model crawlers a curated map of your most important pages, plus a plain-language summary of what your organization is and does. It is a convention, not a standard — no crawler is obligated to read it — but it costs nothing and removes ambiguity about which URLs represent you.

Is llms.txt the same as robots.txt?

No. robots.txt controls access — which crawlers may fetch which paths. llms.txt controls comprehension — it tells a model which pages matter and how to describe you. You need robots.txt to permit AI crawlers in the first place; llms.txt only helps once they are allowed in.

Does llms.txt improve AI citations on its own?

Not on its own. In Crackle PR's own measurement work, the dominant driver of whether an AI answer names a company is third-party corroboration — independent sources describing the company. llms.txt reduces misattribution and makes extraction cleaner. Treat it as hygiene, not as a growth lever.

Where do I put the file?

At the web root, served as plain text or Markdown: https://yoursite.com/llms.txt. Many sites also publish an llms-full.txt containing longer content. Keep llms.txt short and link-dense; put the long prose in llms-full.txt.

Does this tool send my data anywhere?

No. The file is composed entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is transmitted to Crackle PR or stored.
