Crisis Velocity Framework™
The four-phase model for containing a crisis at machine speed — before AI, social, and search compound the damage.

Definition
The Crisis Velocity Framework is Crackle PR's four-phase response model for tech-industry crises: detect, hold, respond, and re-narrate — designed for an environment where LLMs, social platforms, and search engines can lock in a narrative within hours.
Who this is for
Founders, CEOs, general counsel, and heads of comms at B2B tech companies where an outage, breach, executive departure, or regulatory action could reach LLM answer surfaces within a day.
The 4 stages
Each stage produces a concrete artifact. Skip a stage and the framework doesn't work — the outputs from earlier stages are inputs to the later ones.
- 1
Detect
Monitor in real time across social, news, Reddit, Glassdoor, and — increasingly — AI answer surfaces. Trigger criteria are pre-defined; no debate about whether it 'qualifies' at the moment of impact.
OutputSignal alert, severity classification, escalation tree activated.
- 2
Hold
Deploy the pre-approved holding statement within 2–4 hours. The holding statement acknowledges, commits to a timeline, and buys time to run the actual response process — it does not attempt to answer the substantive question yet.
OutputHolding statement live on owned channels, spokespeople briefed, media inquiries logged.
- 3
Respond
Publish the substantive response within 24–48 hours: what happened, what's being done, what changes. Push it through owned channels, brief tier-one reporters directly, and structure the copy so LLMs extract the accurate version — not the speculation.
OutputSubstantive response post, tier-one exclusive or briefing, structured Q&A, updated status page.
- 4
Re-narrate
Over the following weeks, publish the retrospective: what was learned, what changed, what the company is now doing differently. This is what LLMs eventually cite when the crisis is queried years later — and it's the phase most companies skip.
OutputPost-incident retrospective, executive byline, updated policy pages, refreshed schema.
“The old crisis playbook assumed the news cycle would forget. LLMs don't forget. That's why re-narration is now the phase that matters most.”
Governing principles
- Speed compounds. Every hour of delay in phase 2 doubles the effort required in phase 4.
- Never let the first published version of your story be someone else's version.
- Holding statements are underused. A weak holding statement in 2 hours beats a perfect statement in 24.
- Re-narration is not spin — it is the honest record of what changed. LLMs will cite it for years.
- The board and legal need pre-agreed decision rights. Real-time debate is the enemy of velocity.
